Serenity

Serenity

A Poem by Chris Shaw

how that Goring bridge glows gold
as the sinking sun goes down
in a blaze of burnished bright
in a world that's upsidedown

while the geese in convoy swim
upstream in the fading light
bouquets of the river banks
hide their beauty to the night

stars though find the time to shine
as the pale moon shows her face
crystal waters of the weir
drift in patterns like fine lace

Goddess Gaia you I praise
bless your gifts on doldrums days

I love the imagery of the bridge leading off to the blazing sinking sun, it left me with a feeling of otherworldliness, reinforced by the mention of the Goddess Gaia in the final lines. Wonderful as always Chris, I hope you’re enjoying this magnificent summer.

Love the imagery in this write, We have all kinds of geese where we live and it i s highly against the law to kill one. I have seen so many try to too. I dislike people who do that. Beautifully written write. Love this write

What a great tone this has. matching with the title but bringing it down a notch from serenity with that last line. Beautifully written for the eyes and the heart. Great job!

this proves that even on "doldrum" days, there can be beauty seen if we take a moment to comprehend.
I really like the line "bouquets of the river banks"
great metaphor there.

Chris, this should be set to music and sung. Reading it, it sings itself.

No one can have the doldrums when watching a golden sunset. Sometimes the sunsets here make the sky look like it is on fire! Your words flow so easily....like the water under that goring bridge! Beautifully written, Chris. Lydi**
