Gold On Grey

Gold On Grey

A Poem by Chris Shaw

when sun illuminates sky’s winter grey
to cast a golden gleam on crystal sea
it raises spirits wrapped in warm dressed clothes
a treasure chest of jewels for all to see

like diamond dust that sparkles cluster bright
said gems a given gift to mesmerize
they can not fail to please it’s nature’s way
a feast for all with tired weary eyes

how lifting is the prize of dazzling light
a chance to watch the dance on salty waves
the rays are like a tonic sent to heal
escape from mindsets troubled darkest caves

how fine these moments are for us to hold
when breakers rolling in are kissed with gold

You got it lady! You could tell that you have a love of poetry! It's very evident! Okay I take back that last exclamation mark but you definitely got it!

In my imagination, the gold of sunset or sunrise mingling in the horizon with whatever colours splash the day brings an altering hue and takes us on a ride through the dat and it’s substance🙏🏻🕊

Passing along something I was taught by Rattle editor Tim Green: he says colors are kind of weak words and it is much stronger if we can find a metaphor to express the color.

Thanks for the advice Winston. My metaphors have always been weak. I appreciate your visit.

Funny, 'Gold on Grey' put in mind of a military uniform before I clicked it.
As always, Chris, I'm inspired by the way you find Mood-brighteners in Nature,
or maybe it's the other way around😊 ...Either way, it's a lovely read :)

You're very welcome, Chris! Happy Friday to you too.
The sea waves certainly are lovely to watch in any season or type of weather. I really enjoyed your poem; very nicely expressed and described for the reader. Rainy and cold here today, just a gloomy sort of half-frozen misery. It's only about two degrees above the freezing mark but the rain feels like ice water pouring down from the clouds. Always a pleasure to read your poems, F.

I agree dear Chris.

Same here in Michigan. We get the orange and purple sky sometimes. My favorite thing to see. When the sun falls and the lake/trees create a perfect painting. Hello dear friend and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Very very beautiful, the imagery and everything caught me form the first stanza.

It highlights the beauty of nature and its ability to lift spirits, providing solace and joy to those who experience it.

Phrases like "golden gleam," "crystal sea," "diamond dust," and "dazzling light" create a rich visual tapestry, painting a serene and enchanting picture of the natural world. Language and imagery very well put.

I definitely enjoyed this poem.
