New Years Resolution Revolution

New Years Resolution Revolution

A Poem by Carole

New Year’s Resolution Revolution

Though it’s true that change will always be a need

And perhaps there is always something we might heed

New Years Resolutions represent a near impossible task

Those things I promise to adhere to, rarely last

My best intentions frequently go awry

Leaving me with a guilty conscience as I see my list die

I strive and I strive with all that I’ve got

And then I look in the mirror & I’m reminded of what I’m not

I’ve derived a plan that has worked for me

Implementing it has been vital & key

I don’t have to struggle with guilt & shame

For I haven’t set myself up for disappointment & pain

Holding my resolutions quietly in my heart,

I pray for the strength and grace to do my part

I’m silently sustained a long the way

And change is born from day to day

I don’t need the prison of self defeat

I don’t need the feeling of getting beat

Who doesn’t want to win and succeed?

Who doesn’t want to be known for good deeds?

Why wait for the New Year to start a resolution?

Herein lies a faddist’s revolution

Don’t set yourself up again & again to fail

Let yourself out of that self-made prison and jail

Setting goals should be a regular thing

Not something we decide to do at a New Years fling

Aim at nothing and you’ll hit it again & again

Aim at something and it won’t be in vain

Pinpoint the change you’d like to make

Pray for the strength and help for goodness sake

Aim that bow and arrow with the bulls-eye in sight

Pull back the bow and let the arrow take flight

If you miss & sometimes you will

Don’t let yourself suffer with remorse and guilt

Pick up your arrow and try it again

Eventually, you are going to win

I’m leading a New Year’s revolution

Against the mentality of New Years resolutions

Good intentions sometimes need to be changed

Sometimes they simply need to be rearranged

This is wonderful. It is a Christmas Story unto itself. I love the flow and the feel of texture that maintains the speed ot the reading. Nothing in the work is untrue of all of us at the end of the year and that is what keeps the attention best of each reader. Your arrow hit the Bullseye dead on and the measure of the work is due high praise. Great job

Go girl! I totally agree with you! Needed to be let out of the bag, I haven't made an effort for resolutions for years. I just decide to do something and do it. This year I did give myself a deadline by years end to quit smoking (I had started smoking again this year after 20 yrs of not smoking), as my birthday is at the end of the month and I wanted to start my year off different. I Quit on wed the 5th of December at 7pm, and hadn't had one since or really felt the need for it. I think the key was asking God to rid me of this addiction and believing he would- that's the only way to get thru stopping a behavior or starting a new, good one. Anyway, you did a terriffic job...............we don't need to drag things out and wait for Jan 1st of whenever, today has a date on it too! :)

Bravo, this is brilliant, I agree with you 100%. That's why I never do make those anymore, because if I do I usually fail and feel terrible. I like your idea better. T

I loved the idea of this.
I imagined it should be a notice in the middle of a bustling town, wouldn't it be wonderful if people put notices like this around all the cities in the world, it's inspiring, I hope I can follow it's advice next year.

I absolutely could not agree more. Count me in on the New Year's revolution! I want to succeed, Woman, this is brilliant writing but so much more, its brilliant thinking, what a powerful poem. I have to save this to my faves to remind myself all year long that New Years resolutions are a faddist's revolution.

Brilliant writing!
