We are Fables

We are Fables

A Poem by An owl on the moon
"

In dark oceans dreadful deep...

"

We are fables

fleeting flights of fancy

myths with Morpheus our muse

covering us in magic madness

cloaking us with memory's sadness

this hollow face merely my mask

costumed in silken colors of skin

reflections of these stories we tell

the stories we become so well

act by act

scene by scene

day river flows into night stream

living the lightness of this living dream

I’m late

I’m late

for Alice is calling

says the Hatter is falling

and soon we shall be dancing

with the Red Queen lithely prancing

in the shadows of their tales we writhe

before Cronus comes with his scythe

comes and carries us home

home where fables sleep

in dark oceans dreadful deep...

Thank you so much. Your words are so kind and lifting. :)
Great flow, lots of alliteration (which I like). I just wonder, though -- Cronos is the god of time. He's got a scythe, but he's not like the Grim Reaper (that would be Thanatos, if we're going with Greek mythology). Are you saying that he's going to take us when our time on this world is up? Just wanted to clarify. There's something a little Shakespeare-y about this piece, maybe it's the whole "all the world's a stage" bit. Also, that ending -- I love it a lot. It makes me think of krakens, and other sea monsters.

So grateful you have returned to this beautiful madness, dear Latifa.
i think it is true...often we are living or think we are living the fable we want our life to be...the reality is different...but the memories of past, the sadder ones...i think those snap us back to reality, for sure.
nice allegory presented here.

How very kind, a sentiment well and truly reciprocated my friend, bloomin well and truly :)
I always love whimsical offshoots inspired by "Alice in Wonderland" motif! Here you do a great job of blending details from the classic tale with some modern expressions of truth. I love your rhyming & word play on "f" sounds to open, which launches us into a playful fantasy state of mind to read your message. It's amazing how much less stressful life seems when we think of it this way! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

So glad to have you here, dear MOON. Thank you for your light.
I've often wondered if - perhaps, a wise adult might be happier in a world of selected fables? Here you create a place to leave, taking memories, losing sight of what might have been positive.

Following a long held theme, your words are elegant and graphic, Owl, but here - unless i misunderstand, are seen as passing fancies that should fade to nothing in the real world.
