The American Emperor

The American Emperor

A Poem by Damian Alan Gray

No better than the worst
I see you living the curse
so many endured before
you claimed the first.

But, of course, that’s not the worst of it.

Sent darts into twins
you popped the violins
as your troops begin
to ravage former sins.

I can’t abide your
consolations, your
negotiations, your
undulations, your
adorations of war.

The evil axis,
the geotaxis
of your Metaxas
of oil and hate and Texas.

But, of course, that’s not the worst of it.

While the honest died
you covered to deny
the reality of your cries,
your legacy of lies.

I can’t abide your
consolations, your
negotiations, your
undulations, your
adorations of war.

While your crocodile tears
brought pains and fears
to the masses seared
the enlightened jeered.

But, of course, that’s not the end of it,
is it my liege?

Bravo! Keep up the good fight. I love this (except that throwing in Texas bit - I'm a native Texan and I don't claim that sumbich). You did a splendid job with this. Check out my poem "A Letter For King George" when you get a chance. Think you will like it. Your piece and mine go hand in hand. Kudos to you. Going in my favorites.

In my personal style of writing I try (without much success) and stay away from a political standpoint but I certainly was interested in this piece. It invokes an outcry to many of the injustices of that our government and one person in particular has caused. A pity that poetry of this magnitude is not more common place. well done.

this sounds like it would be rapped-idk if thats how you intended it to be read, but i really like this it flows really well and really gets a message across.

How did I miss this gem. What I find sad is that this poem might well still be valid next year; you will just need to change the picture.

Absolutely right on with this one - even those who voted for him seemed to have turned with the price of gas rising more and more everyday and those poor soldiers that are serving term after term in hell - thank you for writing this - perfectly worded and mighty powerful message.

Excellent write! The use of repeating line (...not the worst of it...) and the "chorus" tie it together nicely. Great feel, great topic.

Very nicely penned. Down with the landed aristocracy!

I like how your narrative voice seems to sit on his shoulder and whisper in his ear "traitor". Wonderful and a heavy topic to write on, so filled with controversy to some, beyond painfully obvious to others. I have to look up Metaxas...hope for you that "homeland security" doesn't read this (ah what a robocop world we live in).
