Burning

Burning

A Poem by Chris1189

Just go ahead,

I’ve glued the shattered, razor-like

shards of my heart together before.

You won’t be the first to make me

slice open my fingers, to draw my

blood as I fumble with the jagged

edges. I’ve had my practice at it;

I might not even get cut this time.

So don’t worry, don’t you be shy,

because there’s only one direction

we can steer this thing now, and

you know that it’s straight down–

relationships don't come with brakes.

Because the truth is, my stars never

found any room in your night sky;

the moon was just too damn big.

It isn’t ever going to be me who

concedes the ship is taking on water,

either. I will sail her to the bottom

of the ocean, while holding you right

by my side, before I’ll abandon her,

before I admit that this has to end.

It’s not you, babe, it’s us.

So make your move, girl. It’s all

on you, and you know it. Light

up my world like an atom bomb.
