So That's It

So That's It

A Poem by John Fredrick Carver
"

agonizing over having said something wrong

"

So That Was It

by John Fredrick Carver

I was sweating the weather and sweating inside me too

For I said something I shouldn’t have even thought,

So I tried, and tried, to get a hold of you

To tell you I was sorry that we had ever fought,

And as beads of sweat formed on the front of my chest

I remembered the times it seemed this just couldn’t be,

For of all the people I know I prefer you best

And I cannot understand what came over me?

I tried to blame the heat, I tried my mood,

But neither of them could explain the way I felt

When I recalled how I had been so rude …

Then I found you and, oh my heart did melt

As you walked by and I played innocent

I knew you only wanted me to relent …

Thank you so much newwriter.
I write and prefer only rhymed, metered poems and enjoyed this immensely. We've all experienced this--regret and hoping for forgiveness. Very-well expressed.
