'Hey Dad!' I'm deeply engaged into this since I've lost my dad too without even lot of memories to remember. Can you sing it too? :-) cuts deep, well conveyed, emotional. I think you've nailed it...this is a story that is all too familiar to so many of us, yet the way the speaker handles the situation is truly enviable...it would be so easy to lash out in hateful anger at such treatment, but this speaker shapes it in a certain way and makes it a statement of pride, which is the best way to approach it. It may not be okay, and may never be okay, but you're alright nonetheless, because you know you're a good person and require no reinforcement from wayward parents to ratify it. A truly heartfelt piece that spoke to me not just on a poetic level but an emotional level...excellent work Simple :)

I do not know how it feels to have a dad who left and I really can't imagine. I love my dad to pieces and would die if he left. This is a beautiful and touching write. I really enjoyed the emotions, the sadness, but also the strength to carry on. Great work! (:
