You Are You

You Are You

A Poem by Tessa Low
"

Be who you are, who you will; it's not theirs to choose.

"
Music ]

You're a blessing, you are you
You are someone's light
You're a wish that someone had
Each time she cried
You're an angel, you're the sky
You're the joy that you deny
And there's nothing, nothing that can
Change that now

(repeat)

I watch you walk without a light
Hopeless, lost, tangled in the night
Is it that someone rained on your show?
Grief can be sharp as a knife, I know
But tell me, why do you hurt yourself
And tell me, who left these scars
You say your sky is black and dead
But in your eyes, I see the stars

You're a blessing, you are you
You are someone's light
You're a wish that someone had
Each time she cried
You're an angel, you're the sky
You're the joy that you deny
And there's nothing truer,
Don't you know?

You're not nothing! you are you
Let them tell their lies
In this world, you are the world
In someone's eyes
Don't you say it's not deserved
You're the axis of their love
And there's nothing, nothing that can
Change that now

There may be questions the world will not answer
And there may be pain you don't understand
But till you've known pain, then you haven't lived and
You haven't known, don't
Say you're worth nothing
Some would give the world for you
You have your flaws but you're no mistake
Take a deep breath, and forget all you've heard

And look up above
It's the sky you love

Can't you
See your starlight?

My dear, please be my light
Oh my dear, it's still the night
Don't think you are any less
Than wonderful

You're a blessing, you are you
You are someone's light
You're a wish that someone had
Each time she cried
You're an angel, you're the sky
You're the joy that you deny
And there's nothing, nothing that can
Change that

Angel of the skies,
Let them tell their lies
Don't you know that you are heaven
In my eyes
Don't you say it's not deserved
You're the axis of my love
And there's nothing, nothing that can
Change my mind

i found this really sweet and deep work. i write lyrics myself so i really know where you're going with this one :)
the flow of the lyrics was good overall, kudos on that.

now i liked this stanza, it was very powerful. although i was a bit surprised that it did not rhyme like most of the others. was that intentional?
"Can't you
See your starlight?"
i kind of think it would be better if you put that in one sentence. i know it makes no difference when the song is actually sung, but when the lyrics are read, the separation of the lines could disrupt the reader's attention.
overall this was great and a real pleasure to read :)
