Passing of Lost Dreams

Passing of Lost Dreams

A Poem by Mike Mounts
"

A poem I wrote to continue to remind myself that I control my dreams and plans, and not to let the chaos of life control me to the point that I do not fulfill them.

"

The screaming shadows of life soar through my mind’s eye

Flickering like a candle flame, ever changing, ever moving

The flame within begins to rise, and my eyes are no longer dry.

The seasons come and go as the emptiness becomes life

Rings form around my eyes like aging trees in an endless forest

The mirror looks back with a shaking head, eyes of anger and strife

Beating my chest as to awaken my heart, I scream

Destiny taunts and flicks at my ears with words of chaos

The days of a calendar swarm my head like a nightmarish dream

My eyes flash open, and I rise thrashing and confused

Destiny is mine alone, visions and dreams belong to me

The turmoil of life will not leave me wanting and abused

Carpe Diem is my chant, as the icy fingers of despair set me free

Bit too much prose if you intend a rhyming piece, but satisfying. I love your concept though, dark, but not so much as to leave me trembling, coupled with an optimist's ending.
