A Poem by Corey J. Mckenzie

Blood On Yer Hands

One day you will escape
and runaway with my love
and I will be left bleeding
With an exposed chest cavity

You are not a prisoner
and you can leave if you want
and you will some day
when the nights get too cold

Born to make mistakes
We are all born to lose
but some of us can win
remembering to love it all

How does my heart feel
when you’re holding it in your hand
Please be very careful
for you carry precious cargo

If you decide to let it go
I do not think I will want it back
It is yours to keep now
Hold it, in your hands
