Record of my thoughts about book I am writing--

"

  Journal Nov.28, 2008  I am not enthused with this book—I am driving myself to put word behind word and go on with it, ut I have little enthusiasm for the process—this is not good. Should make the process primary, and love the process and the characters. I am meditating on that photo of SP—the smiling one—it is 1 am, Nov.28, 2008—I have pennies for a Coke this morning, if Sidamo is open—was thinking about that critique I wrote—there r types of literature which I just do not like, and that guy writes one of them. Not interested in gloomy, “nitty-gritty” tales of losers—if browsed in a bookstore, I would not buy this. I have enough of the  “nitty-gritty” in my own life, but life is populated by devotees and right thinking, sp there are no losers here—once one comes to Krsna, one will attain Him sooner or later, so there is optimism and right thinking. W/ Krishna, everyrthing is a comedy, and without Him, everything is a tragedy—I have seen it played out just like that. No time for fools—Ajitananda’s widow says his death was a tragedy—I think it was a comedy. So what are the specifics for Vicky’s concern over losing everything? What is the law that governed that? Ask Ron, maybe. Where I woulod look? Can go to Alameda Law Library at the Courthouse—see if they had anything like that—then headline chapter with it! And again, cant travel next three days—no Bart fare. Want to add—I like hopeful characters, not losers. Do not spin tales of losers, because want to root science of mind in public eye-except as contrast to those who have a clue about nature of living; human form of life is valuable, and should be utilized to chant the holy names—that is the grand purport to everything I write—so where does Victoria Hope come in? She is unconcerned right now, but she will display her grit as a Unitarian in due time; right ow second chapter—father’s trial and concerned with losing funds; need the legal basis for this confiscation and for her defense; that is second chapter. Third chapter is her actual defense in court, and Cole helping, as witness. Spencer Howard has gone back to the infantry. She wins partially, but must move into humbler house, perhaps in Cleveland Heights, perhaps in West Cleveland, in Cole’s old neighborhood. And, as wrote, Alex Corel is her neighbor! So how neighborly will they get? Now out of cooking oil and Salsa Brava, which is the best stuff—the consistency of ketchup and the same appearance, can be substituted for it on anything. I stated second chapter is trial—no, third chapter; second is preface to trial. Everybody (two persons) is telling me there are “problems’ with this story. Don’t see what they are—seems pretty straightforward to me! Now 3:30a and up with story, deciding what happens in 2d and 3d and 4th chapter—2d she hears about legal troubles of father, goes on a hospital visit, then visits Cole’s sanitarium with friends; Spence is there, but not for long;many of the doctors are trying different things; Cole is tryig hydrotherapy, others are trying different diets, and so on. Spence makes his case for her; she teases him about his situation, and mocks his arguments—he is unfased, and comes back. Vicky is a profoundly positive thinker—she finds her direction in a course in metaphysics she has taken—the physics of mind, or beyond physics, or Science of Mind, which she applies to all affairs. She is running into a personal dilemma, though—which man to choose? Well, Mind will bring her an answer—logic is not helpful.

On to chapter four---Spence is away at war, bt writes; Cole is a frequent visitor, and Corel lives next door. How to deal with? She is confused—but life goes on. Then Chapter 5:the courts reject her arguments—appeal; meanwhile, abner Hope has bought his way out of prison; large fine, no prison time; Vicky tries her metaphysics in re Corel’s black magic; magick, he explains, and metaphysics are the same thing, only magic is more durable; that is why she is fascinated by magick, being a metaphysician. Corel does a ceremony for her father, to bring him home quickly, or so he says; anyhow, some goetic spirits are involved;

Chapter 6, what I’ve been waiting for—Bhaktkivinode Thakur arrives in Canada. And he travels to the States, to Clebveland, and lectures at ??? Hall. Vicky attends the lecture and brings cole with. Bhaktivinode speaks about Truth, and about the chanting of the holy names. Vicky and Cole are impressed, especially by bhagavat prasdam which he has prepared, and explains. Personal note: It is the DVD player which I have to get, for $35, that is the expense this month, besides $55 for WG, and mayhap another $30 for Lotus Sutra—line that up.

“A Contemporary Translation of the Lotus Sutra”, by Reeves. This is one of the most, probably THE most important Mahayana sutra there is—it has been 25 years or so since I looked at it. I am adding the dimension of metapjhysics to Vicky—another thing to be aware of. Now 5:30a.Now 6:13a—plainly cannot get back to sleep. Before last chapter there should be a twist—so far haven’t conceived of what—and conceive 12 chapters to this, so 11th will be the twist, and 12th—maybe she blooms as a magickian—if she gets Cole, that would be no surprise to anyone---away with the conventional! She finds a soulmate in Corel! I think that is the idea- Maybe she doesn’t want any of them!

I will have to ask her what she wants—she doesn’t know—she is simply led by a superior male-that, perhaps, is the moral of the last chapter—I say right now she doesn’t marry, neither does he, and they enjoy magicking together. As the Sun sets on Cleveland, we hear them vibrating the barbarous names:

Ru Abrao   The End

So skip the DVD player and get the Sutra.So school is $55 and sutra is $20=$75, and all bills in addition, meaning PGE and ATT. I wanted the sutra last, think that would be the most valuable thing to me. DVDs work in computer so what is the need? Today went through the first example case, a guy with fear of water.There are about 4 more. I like upbeat stuff, people who maybe get in trouble, but overcome, and are making progress on the Path, regardless of obstacles and sometimes because of obstacles, and who value themselves and what they are doing regardless of the situation in which they may have placed themselves. Such people are keen on anything which will further their self-expression or self-direction, and discount the negative which is always coming at us. I am not interested in losers, particularly not as main players, or as friends in my personal life---they will drag you down to their own sorry level and you will not be able to get up again. Association is very important—associate with those who ae going godward, and YOU are going godward also; associate with those who have madetheir lives a hell—and so will you. Purport is to associate with devotees, who have given their lives to the Supreme—their association is rarely gotten. Everybody has the Supreme Personality of Godhead within him, therefore everybody is all fixed up and doesn’t need anything from anyhody else. These were my objectives in that piece: 1) to get something going on the first page 2) to introduce most of the main players with dialog rather than description.3) to set things up for further activities. I am an upbeat guy and a positive thinker, and my characters are like that, too. This is designed as a journey from other-determinism to self-determinism for practically everyone, especially Victoria and me—its my journey, too, and of course, she is just me as a young 19th century woman, which is a bit of a stretch for an old, 21st century man, but everything is possible in fiction. I am writing chapter 12, the end, so I know where I am going with this. I would like to hear if I have achieved my objectives, rather than what someone else thinks I should be doing. If I started listening to critics and changing everything, I would be completely lost.
