A Chapter by Jordan Williams

busted so dumb

she caught me with a “duh”

i respond in “umms”

topped with a stammered “huh?”

my brain becomes

a fog of facts and fuzz

added up to sums

of what a narcissist does

wait for you to finish

but your speech is incessant

ask you for just a minute

but you won't give me a second

i could've already written

a breakthrough with time invested

but i forget it again when

you interrupt the message

it's not that i don't listen

to the words i just missed then

it's just hard to focus in my condition

the expired renditions

of news in repetitions

try to revive the mind already in submission

she spoke, we broke, then i wrote sweetness that i couldn't say

she spoke, we broke, then i wrote, completed when she wouldn't stay

she spoke, we broke, then i wrote with a nearsighted clear view

she spoke, we broke, now i know i didn't hear you

trust is crumbled

into a shameful mess

apologies soon humbled

feeble as they're confessed

in wobbly mumbles

but i tried my best

to pick up what i fumbled

kept too far from the chest

wait for my reception

but my thoughts' durations

outlast other sections

of my brain's concentration

waving in conceptions

that engender elations

soon i'll answer your questions

but please just be patient

it's not that i'm ignoring

your conversation so boring

there's just a limited space in my head for storing

recollections informing

but free fancies implore me

to dream in new days so worth exploring

she spoke, we broke, then i wrote what those pesky words were

she spoke, we broke, now i know i never heard her

i wrote, i broke, then i spoke in odes much too late

i wrote, i broke, now i know it would've been better to wait

This bit is my favourite:

ask you for just a minute
but you won't give me a second

I also noticed in the poems of yours, that I've read so far, you allude to writing frequently. I find that very interesting. I've written over 300 lyrics but I don't think I've ever alluded to writing once in any of those lyrics. I never thought about alluding to yet.

E.g. i could've already written
AND
she spoke, we broke, then i wrote sweetness that i couldn't say
