The Bluebird

The Bluebird

A Story by clns123
"

This is a moment in my life I will never forget; the promise of freedom.

"
I cried today.
Not something I'm particularly proud of - nor something of which I am ashamed.
I leaned on the fence in my backyard, and let the tears run down my face freely, as I whispered to God.
I don't want money.
I don't want the best job.
I don't want the biggest house, or the nicest car.
All I want is to be able to lay my head down at night and smile.
To be happy.
To anticipate the morning.
I felt the wind brush against my wet cheeks, as the sky darkened, the thick grey clouds overcoming the pale blue.
A bluebird flew past me - it landed a few feet away, and just sat there and observed.
I wiped my hair from my face and grinned. Father always told me bluebirds were a sign of happiness.
Thank you, I told God.
I know I'll be okay.
Maybe not today.
Maybe not tomorrow.
But someday.

Not cheesy at all! That's a beautiful poem! My mother once told me about a lady, she lost her husband, father, and son in the same week. She was giving up on god, then she saw a butterfly. Ever since then she's seen a butterfly anytime she's been upset. Isn't that amazing? I decided on my sign being a bluebird! I realize it's up to god, not me, but I ask god for a bluebird anytime I'm down, and most of the time I see one.

I think this poem is lovely! It has a nostalgic feel that welcomes one to just sit and listen with you and watch the bluebird perched upon the fence.
