A Delayed Reaction

A Delayed Reaction

A Poem by Nirvana

Through veins and arteries,
the Brain ran down to the Heart as fast as she could.
"I'm ready to love!" she yelled. "I'm ready and willing."
With a slow, exasperated beat the Heart began to reply:
"Foolish mind. You have waited too long.
I am tired, broken, and unable to love."
The Brain was stunned at what she heard.
"Is there nothing I can do?" she softly cried.
"You should have listened to the Gut," said the Heart bitterly,
"the Gut is never wrong."
The battered Heart turned and returned to its chambers.
And with that, the Brain was left alone,
to weep at love lost.

Very clever! Your imagination knows no bounds! This is really cute, funny, original, & true. It might be one of the most original ways I've ever seen such a message crafted, being a play on the hackneyed phrases: "following the heart" & "listening to our gut" *smile*

This is brilliant! It's so clever and unique and I would LOVE to see what other odd and wonderful things your imagination has created! The personification of these organs as a way to convey the struggle between them just blew me away, and the way the language turned from fun and quirky to sad and heartbroken in an instant when Heart began speaking was phenomenal.
Truly well done! This is fantastic! Please give us more!

The personification used in this piece is awesome, never crossed my Brain. Always good to read something clever, and its something people can relate to as that conflict between mind and heart happen daily for many, its good u captured that. Only thing i can critique is i thought the flow of the poem went off slightly where u say "is there nothing I can do?" but that could be just me lol. Good work

Wow, this is definitely one of the best poems I have read in this forum. And it's so unique. The battle between the mind and heart. Thinking before taking a step or go for leap of faith (passion would sound better though) Thanks for sharing such a lovely poem ^^

That's so great! I'll definitely take a look!
That is an amazing poetry....How delicately you have made the characters alive here....I loved the imagery of the poem....The reader was taken to a world of the machinery of love....It was cleverly thought out and sweetly presented....Amazing concept....Hats off to you.....Clappings!!!! Thumbs up!!! Full ratings....

The "machinery of love" is an excellent way to put it. Thank you!!
Aye! The ever-raging battle between head and heart related in such a lovely and whimsical presentation. I agree completely with BarleyGirl's comments (don't tell her I do. I'll never hear the end of it!)
You have a wonderful imagination. An entertaining read for sure!

Thank you! It was fun to give life to these "characters" that weigh heavily on our daily choices.
