On hunger and happiness.

On hunger and happiness.

A Story by Nirvana
"

Food for thought, per usual.

"
All emotion begins with a craving...
The desire to be wanted can often lead to lonliness.
The desire to be loved can lead to sadness.
However, happiness is achieved whenever these cravings are fulfilled.

Our minds tick in such a way that when we reach this fulfillment,
This moment where for even one millisecond we feel superhuman,
We want more.

Why do addicts return time and time again to their vices?
Why do broken lovers seek out what brings them the strongest ill-fated memories?
We go to the extreme to simply FEEL these emotions
Because the craving merely continues to grow the less it is satisfied.

Finally, once we have steadily fed the beast,
we develop another.

Sometimes we move on,
Sometimes we forget,
Sometimes we get greedy.

So what does this mean?

We indulge in this craving, entertain it for a while,
Assure that it really "hits the spot"...
Only to have that all too familiar hunger slowly
come creeping up from within the pit of our stomach again.

At this point we have to ask ourselves:
Are we ever completely satisfied?

And if we are never satisfied,
Does that mean that we're never truly happy?

Well, therein lies what most humans struggle to answer for themselves during times of weakness, bewilderment, or even when they think they are absolutely sure of their present circumstances...

What is your personal definition of happiness?
Simply, what fulfills you?

I can relate to this piece, seeing things for what they are, the clarity of what our minds are really up to. It forces me to look back on past relationships, past moments in time where I moved about with romanticism and when that failed used psychological observations to get what I wanted/craved. The human animal is definitely interesting. Enjoyed this work on various levels.
