A Poem by Con Campbell

A poem about 'blame'. Why do people pass blame elsewhere? Responsibility and growth are surely more important?

Who is to blame for something is not important.

What is important is growth, if we can learn something from a situation, then we owe it to ourselves to do so.

Taking responsibility for our role in a situation is far more important than purely being right.

There's always someone else to blame,

Someone to pass the book to.

The responsibility, do you not claim?

Your problems stick to you like glue.

Don't you think it's time?

You might learn a lesson or two.

Being wrong is not a crime,

Not when you accept what is true.

Life is a series of lessons

Best learned when we're open to them.

Your hatred of the world would lessen,

If you'd stop pretending to be numb.

"It's not my fault!" you say,

Why do you have to see it this way?

Away from truth you surely stray,

Not everything is shades of grey.

Nobody can force you to listen,

If you cling to your belligerence.

Your naivety forces division,

Right and wrong? There’s a difference.

Patterns become a behaviour

That you're doomed to repeat.

You're not your own saviour,

This isn't a game you can cheat.

Time and time again it has happened,

You present your truth as the truth.

Be careful, karma comes to lap, and

I see through you. It doesn’t take a sleuth.

Well, I guess you'll never learn,

You'll never change or grow.

You cling to lies, truth adjourn,

It doesn't change the truth, though.

One day you'll find you yearn,

And you'll find you've sank too low.

You’ll find you've sank too low.

I believe that the best writing is supposed to be raw; it's meant to be an accurate representation of what's inside of us. It conveys our darkest depths and our brightest heights. I expose myself .. more..
