Seven-Pointed-Star-Spangled Banner

Seven-Pointed-Star-Spangled Banner

A Poem by Conrad Wrobel
"

No one should forget tragedies such as the Holocaust. As horrible as they are, people were there and had to live through it.

"

Until now there has been significance,

Back then things were set in stone,

But now I see, by the light of the sea,

That I can never go home.

Once upon, there was a measure,

taken up to destroy all the sane,

A man with a mustache made life a crime,

And made hate the rule of the day.

The life I’d known was impure,

The blood in my veins untrue,

But now I see, by the light of the sea,

They were the ones who should burn.

My home is where the heart is,

But my heart has swayed and froze.

My future is safe in a far off land,

Where I can be free,

To pray by the sea,

In a temple,

In a place I call home.

I would like that one line to read, " They were the ones who should have burned" and just drop the "that" at the beginning. It clears tense confusion and keeps the flow, just a thought and a suggestion, great poem.
