Cortney My Daughter

Cortney My Daughter

A Poem by lee von cleef
"

1985 - 2011

"
Two years today, at four twenty,

A hard line drawn.
My life was again,

Placed in the forge for a scalding,

Hammered tempered to become,
Damascus steel.
Aged, contoured lined,

Defined...

Trinity a realization of the strength of,
Empty.
The power of,
Now.

The need of preparation.
To handle the scalding ,to hold a edge, sharp and narrow,
To Live...

Not brittle, not brittle, no not brittle,

What have you given today ?
How deep ?
How well fed are your roots ?
Do you have Initiative ?
Creativity ?
A double layer of humor ?

To Choose, to live, to grey, to walk on that line drawn hard on my heart,
Today,
To kiss today.

Placed in the forge for a scalding,

This line spoke to me more than any of the others. Knowing the burning loss, trying to shape it into something useful, something that will no longer hurt. At times we hammer away, and out tears is what we use to cool the steel.

A brilliant write.

Resilience: that ability to liquify ourselves like caterpillars in a chrysalis, to let our vulnerability overflow into all corners of our not-so-tidy rooms, and then stitch up our own hearts using our own sinew to face the world again and give it just the tiniest peck on the lips after she has utterly destroyed you. What emerges is metamorphic, folded, patterned, crsyalline. Like Damascene steel.

I acknowledge.

"It doesn’t interest me
what planets are
squaring your moon...
I want to know
if you have touched
the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened
by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain." -Oriah Mountain Dreamer

Most become closed off, Lee. I think Cortney is very proud of you somewhere for not doing so.

This gave me chills, made it hard to breathe across this fragile brittle line that life is balanced on after a loss as deep as this... Reminding yourself that you need to go on... Everything that it takes to move again... I am so so sorry for you and Courtney.

Thank you for sharing this with me. I cannot imagine. And yet you remain...and still you give. What have you given today? How that hit me.

In honor of Courtney, and those who lost too soon. I take that 2nd to the last stanza,
and make it my own. live it.

good day, thank you...
May our Blessed Mother hold your sorrows in Her cup of tears and touch you as no human may!
May our Lord Jesus Christ feel your overwhelming pain on this - Courtney's death memory day!
May our Creator, who is ever at your side, send your sorrow and pain away!

May Angels of Mercy and Love be ever present to guide you!

May your path continue to walk straight as her story you share.
May you ever know you are loved as your spirit brims over with despair!
But always, always, always know you are ever held in our Loving Father's Care!

God be with you this day my friend!! And in memory of the dead, we pray without ceasing for her soul to know comfort, joy and peace!!! Our Father in Heaven, Hail Mary Full of Grace, Memory of all the saints, Love of you and her family, may you be assured by God's Holy word that she is without pain!! She lives on in YOU!!!

Blessings,
Sheila
