How You Know

How You Know

A Poem by Alice Miller
"

An older piece to pass the time while I wait for inspiration to strike.

"
Darling,

I know it's hard to tell if I love you.
Hard to tell if "darling" is saved just for you,
Or given carelessly to all those who can make me laugh.

You know I love everything and everyone with a firecracker's brightness,
Loudly as clattering chimes and victory cries,
With a mad passion most others reserve
For falling in love, once and forevermore.

Rest assured, darling,
That I love you, too, in those wild ways.
But when the clamor settles-
When I've run out of things to say
Or when nothing needs to be said-
It's always you that I wish to share my silence with.

Please keep my gentle love.
My sighs, my secrets, my hand in yours.
It isn't so sensational as the fierce and dazzling love I give away,
But it is the only love that I keep
The very closest to my heart-
And it is yours alone.

Because I thought we needed one more poem about this kind of thing.

Did you know that April 9th is Comma Abuse Day? I've decreed it. As always, constructive feedback is appreciated.

Another poem about love. How could you? But you do give it a twist by writing it as a letter. Terms of endearment on a poets terms.

Very nice. It reads well but ends even better.

What a beautiful write! I love the closure in the final lines...(It isn't so sensational as the fierce and dazzling love I give away, But it is the only love that I keep The very closest to my heart- And it is yours alone.) Just lovely! ~Sharon
