I Don't Think We're Those People Anymore

I Don't Think We're Those People Anymore

A Poem by Alice Miller
"

"A song about the lifetime where your soulmate from your past life stops being your soulmate"

"

Verse:

Too young to be in love, too in love to care

Thought we outsmarted them all, had it so good we got scared

All I knew was that I didn’t know anything, but even knowing that, I knew

I loved you too much to love you enough to let you be something to lose

Every day of fixing things broke me down

Kept my lips closed just to keep you around

Made my life a living hell with all the things I couldn’t tell you

The closer you came back, the farther I fell

Prechorus:

When loving you was growing pains

Perfect storms with pouring rain

“I’ll never feel like this again”

Chorus:

But that was then and this is now

We’ll find a way somehow

To be you and I, better than before

I don’t think we’re those people anymore

Verse:

Then we’re eighteen, my head hanging off the edge of your bed

I hate that I don’t know the next time I’ll see you again

You’re singing in the shower and it stings like déjà vu

When you come back in for a last kiss, I want to come home to this like it’s our room

Feels so warm until we put it in the past tense

When we become the strangers that we’ve never really been

When so much time has passed that it feels awkward to bring up

When I can’t read your face, can’t tell if you’re thinking of

Prechorus:

When loving you was having fun

Staying up and making love

Knowing too well that we were young

Chorus:

But that was then and this is now

We’re on our own, figuring it out

Too busy to miss me behind closed doors

Too busy to remember being yours

I don’t think we’re those people anymore

Bridge:

So why do I recognize your glasses next to mine

On the dresser in your bedroom

I think I’ve been here a thousand times

And when will you realize we didn’t just align

Not just fated, no, we made this

I think that you stayed a thousand times

Prechorus:

When loving you was in the stars

Holding you like you held my heart

Like we could never fall apart

Chorus:

But that was then and this is now

How I wish you’d stick around

For what the next life has in store

But I’m not so certain anymore

We’re still the ones that we were fated for

I don’t think we’re those people anymore
