To My Unborn Son

To My Unborn Son

A Poem by Dave C.
"

A poem about my unborn son.

"

In the time of my former life

When care was given to no one alive

My most profound creations were songs, paintings, poems, and other constructs

But none of those could they themselves create

None of those could discover or instruct

They could neither love nor hate

Or their affection for me, could they communicate

None of those could have a heart for me to hear each beat

They could never lie or cheat,

Learn from their mistakes and grow wiser as a result

They will never hug me in my defeat

Or push me away with insults

Only to develop stronger love when they begin to miss me

As crazy as I may be

As strong as my imagination is

They could never take the place of his

Could they loom for original life?

Could they stem from a beam of light?

The best is yet to come

Descend safely and lay your eyes upon me my son
