Looking Back

Looking Back

A Poem by Phillip Francis

Looking back, I only try to glance.

I find it difficult, as I'm continuously caught in a trance.

My past haunts me.
I struggle to simply let it be.

Faces swim around my brain.
Visions of lovers and friends who no longer remain.

Significant encounters that changed my way of thinking.
Complex situations that eventually led to heavy drinking.

A constant  battle, I yearn to move forward.
A sailor lost at sea seeking the direction shoreward.

I desire change, demanding a new vision,
Indulging in new experiences, to escape this mental prison.

Searching for the answers to forget my petty crimes.
I listen to Dylan, alleviation in these changing times.

The answer is in forgiveness, I need to give myself a break.
For I'm the only person who can ease this morbid heart ache.

No longer feeling guilty or differential to my actions.
The world keeps on spinning, each day brings unique attractions.

My eyes gently open, revealing light at the end of the tunnel.

No more looking back, consuming positivity through a funnel.

yes, the first step in moving forward, is to forgive our backward....

and that is not easy...

well expressed....don't understand why there are no reviews on these poems...

you tell it like it is...very well.
