La Cumparsita

La Cumparsita

A Poem by Hebe
"

Last Dance -Free Verse

"
Whirling like a feather on the breeze
under a dusky street lamp
shadowed figures dance to absolve
such deception must be acknowledged
my bare feet bleeding in the cracked cement
your eyes turned away
I fall but you don't see this
my movements display cataclysmic events
but your eyes are turned away
passers by stare in awe
let there be no mistake
this blood will mark you!
I have danced on mountain peaks
and twirled in soft sand
leaped and embraced waves
but bitterness is your waltz
your legs move like rocks
there is no dance
just stage lights left to burn
Your past eats away at the musical notes
left dangling off the manuscript
such adornments make my heels sticky
words mean nothing
when they are spread so thinly
on worn wooden floors
farewell my love
the final song is always
La Cumparsita!
