a loner song

a loner song

A Poem by Dana Alsamsam
"

homage to my introversion

"
seldom worded
thorough observer
curtain closer
bedroom dweller
losing myself in the pages
of stories to forget that i must
eventually write my own.

cemetery frequenter
wearer of dark colors
lover of spooky things
occasionally forgetting to speak
as a mental fantasy
engulfs reality.

vinyl lover
silent watcher
star gazer
mug collector
taking comfort in the silence
between musical phrases
because the dynamics of a rest
are just as important
as the flagged notes scattering
across a melody.

intellect of a renegade philosopher
soul of a poet
disappearing easily into the background
dreamer of destroyed dreams
lifting me beyond
this universe
a scream in a world
where the introvert
is constantly silenced.

why do you say this isn't good?

it's bare bones, it's confessional..it is so real....

staying inside oneself..yet admitting to many things that are the traits of the poet... a collector of items, but also of words...

"a scream in a world
where the introvert
is constantly silenced"

really powerful ending..haunting...

we all have our screams as poets...some are just on the inside and no one hears them...

but your words shout loudly off the page...and we identify...

a poet's poet you are.

sometimes its comforting to revel (wallow?) in our introversion...but a world all our own can be as daunting a place a the one filled with people who don't know what it's like to have to hunt for words to fill the tank of conversation enough that it doesn't run try....and what good is talking for the sake of not wanting to stop talking because then, you know...silence. extroverts don't know what to do with silence. introverts revel and create worlds. i try to straddle both, but you painted a comfortable picture here for me, dana. Thank you.

Don't beat yourself up. It's a great description of yourself, it shows that you are anything but one dimensional. These are the lines that spoke to me,
"occasionally forgetting to speak
as a mental fantasy
engulfs reality. "

I understand this completely.

"a scream in a world
where the introvert
is constantly silenced."

There can be no more accurate description of the true life of the introverted.

There is more strength in this write than you give credit to my friend.

You're welcome :)
An exercise? Girl- you're nuts. This was so great. My favorite lines were:
"losing myself in the pages
of stories to forget that i must
eventually write my own. "
So great. :)

thank you so much!
Good even if it is an exercise. For one exercise, choose a word from a dictionary and write about the word for 5 minutes...only 5 minutes...without stopping...or thinking really. This sometimes gets me going. Keep at it...bobc
