MY FATHER SAID

MY FATHER SAID

A Poem by DANA PERNA

My Father said I was ugly, weak, and stupid

all of which rendered me worthless.

Father fiercely punched my legs black and blue

though he never said why.

My Father said I was inferior to my sister, because

she was beautiful, intelligent and strong.

Mom said stay away from your Father,

because he doesn’t like you.

Father perpetuated these cruel misconceptions from

when I was 5 yrs. old to 22 yrs. old up to his death.

The question left is whether the wounds and scars were

inherent or direct damnation from what my father said?
