Gifts of Fall

Gifts of Fall

A Poem by Dana Walker
"

Inspired by my good friend, RM, who sent me a photo of her simply perched in the arms of a tree on a November day. Quite lovely.

"

Gifts of Fall

Yellow leaves amidst the reds

Thrown off the naked branches.

Autumn leans against the trunk,

Her rusty hair and fiery eyes

Daring all the fates to shift.

The Earth breathes in her blue sky lungs.

A motley hawk perches, watching,

Sentinel  to the change of gifts.

Sitting, lone, upon the verge,

Of being.  Here.  Now.

Witnessing the gifts of change.

You portrayed a peaceful scene, which contradicted wonderfully with the capricious nature of Nature (hmm...that sounded a bit strange). The line 'A motley hawk perches, watching, Sentinel to the change of gifts.' painted a vivid picture in front of me, I adored it. On that note, welcome to the cafe, and I do hope to see more of your work!

I like this. You have some excellent juxtapositions such as, "yellow," and, "red," within the first line, followed by cooler, emptier phrases in the next two. Very nice.
