Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill

A Story by Dan Bullock

 people hidden like lions
in the long grass of Richmond
round orange glow glistens eyes
that peer over the reeds
ducking when the bees
seek a misled scent
and vent their confusion by
drifting off with the breeze
i expect to be crawled on
and dragged into their
world of creatures so small
you have to macro in
to easily see it all

the breeding here is strong
and intentions, even higher
not wealth i seek
but to be content is the truest desire

i won't hedge my bets
i won't play for yeses
i'm going with possiblity
and frowned-upon guesses
there's nothing to lose
and everything to gain
but i must now move on
as the lioness tugs at my mane
