The Oak Picture Frame

The Oak Picture Frame

A Poem by dancerella10

What tells a story

better than that

of an oak picture frame

with a beige, two-inch matte?

Its starts with a photo"

of the newly wed two

He in black, She in white

They’ve just said “I do.”

Then comes the picture

One plus one equals three

They’re momma and daddy

And they’ve had a baby!

Suddenly now

The baby’s eleven

And there’s two other munchkins"

the youngest is seven.

Steadily as

the pictures progress

their haircuts change

and their fashions a mess.

Now, look at that there,

The oldest is grown

And he’s starting a sweet little

family of his own.

Now off to college

The little one goes

Her diploma in hand

To see what she knows.

And that one there,

Yes, there on the right,

They’re holding their six

little grandchildren tight.

But wait did you see?

In that photo just there

It seems that the place

Of the father is bare.

But what do you do

when you want to forget

that someone who loved you

You can’t just reset.

Do you rip them out

of each picture their in?

Or simply put those pictures

safe in a bin?

What tells a story

better than that

of an oak picture frame

with a beige, two-inch matte?

Its starts with a photo"

of the newly wed two

and ends with a photo"

her alone on a pew.
