Season's Breath

Season's Breath

A Poem by Aldora Sparrow
"

Three haikus for each season

"

Summer
Days of burning sun
Raging like fiery passions
Will it ever end?
Waiting for coolness
Many restless, sleepless nights
Dreams of cold waters
Darkness falls, look out
See the lights, see those fireflies
Flickering like stars

Fall
A new cold wind blows
Bringing new shades of color
To the once-green leaves
A kaleidoscope
Beautiful red, brown, yellow
The waltz of colors
Life slowly ending
Fleeing to a death-like sleep
Waiting and hoping

Winter
The dance of white starts
Raining ice cold on the world
That is still, quiet
Glimmering crystals
Priceless jewels that fade slowly
Few moments to live
Freezing, chilling sigh
The cold that is always there
Warmth is almost here

Spring
A warm breath sweeps through
Stirring the long-dormant world
With its wings of green
Coat of ice melting
The frozen air becomes warm
Winter is no more

See those flowers bloom
Rivers flowing, birds singing
New life starts again

this one is a treat to read! to travel through the seasons, transcend time and space, as a reader, with your outstanding poetry is a treat, indeed!

summer - and the scorching heat, the merciless sun, the "dreams of cold waters" that dot the "many restless, sleepless nights" - incredible! the "waiting for coolness", brilliant!

fall - the freshness of the "cold wind", the changing colors of the "once-green leaves" into "a kaleidoscope" of fascinating shades of "beautiful red, brown, yellow" - stunning! the cycles of old and new, the contrast of how the end, most of the time, brings with it, a new hope for the new - "waiting and hoping"!

winter - "the dance of white" - the first snow, all consuming and ever present - "Glimmering crystals" "Priceless jewels that fade slowly" - a stunning description of melting icicles - pure and beautiful.

spring - the delicateness of the spring breaking through the hardness of the winter - "Stirring the long dormant world", the transition of the white of winter into the "wings of green" - artistic and beautiful!

the endlessness of cycles and the exquisite beauty of all seasons shines through in this gorgeous haiku string!

The format is aesthetically pleasing, I like it. I could do without the colors but that's your choice as a writer. To me the words seemed powerful enough and descriptive enough that the color was excessive. The imagery was beautiful, however, and you did a marvelous job at accentuating each season's breath. It felt like the seasons were passing around me and adjusting my temperature to their particular atmosphere. Nicely done.

Wow! Inventive, I like that you formatted the poem sort of like a ladder for each season, I also like the choice of colour for each one. It brings the poem alive. Sometimes there is a little too much focus on the display and not the poem itself, but you avoided that here. I really loved the poem!

Keep Writing,
Melissa

This group of haiku's history of winning awards is evidence of its quality. Its strength is obviously in the totality with which it captures the essence of the seasons.

References to temperature, restlessness and passions depict summer as a time of activity and oppressive heat. The fall is presented as a transition in color and as the time of hopeful preparation. The winter haikus regard white, cold, crystalline stillness. The spring haikus are about rejuvenation and a returning commotion.

It's a collage of well worded seasonal themes.
