Paper thin

Paper thin

A Poem by Elena Covaci

Hang a dirty shoelace from the wall
and picture this
a thousand "maybes" on a scratched surface of frozen ice
I was always a stubborn girl
In my mind and on my pillow I feel something closer
something cruel, almost watching
So, in memory of me
hang up this portrait of grass and glass
wrapped in twine and crows hearty feathers
I was always a bold girl
On an old letter I write words in sync
and those flutter like magic carp
down a waterfall of  my own hair
And I hang myself up high
Like a beauty queen of Kalkuta
This brown paper bag is finally empty

I think your poetry has gotten really good! You're moving away from abstractions and building concrete imagery. I also like that you've avoided cliches, your own words are much more powerful and interesting.

The mixture of hubris and poignancy is very good in this piece. I hope you'll keep writing.

About
SimplyStrange! I'm just a darkly eccentric, humorous and dramatic girl, putting her feelings into words at the risk of being laughed at! I write about darkness, loss and despair. I am such a cliche!.. more..
