I Wish to Marry a Gentleman

I Wish to Marry a Gentleman

A Poem by DarkHairedDreamer

I Wish to Marry a Gentleman

I wish to marry a gentleman -

One who holds the door open

And walks on the side of the street.

A man who opens the car door and holds out a hand to help me out

Who pulls out a chair for me before he sits down himself.

A man who reads novels

And speaks eloquently with the words from within

A man who recites Shakespeare and poetry,

And writes his own prose.

Someone who knows how to dress himself

And wears cologne

Who takes time to get ready

So as to look his best everyday.

A man who holds my hand in his

Fingers intertwined as we walk together

A man who bows before a dance and smiles and calls me beautiful,

Who knows how to waltz and sweeps me off my feet.

A man who is sweet, gentle, caring

Who won't laugh at my dreams

Someone who lets me be myself

And sings sweet melodies from his heart.

A man who kisses my forehead when we hug,

One who holds me tight when I cry

And strokes my hair

And whispers softly, "It's okay."

I wish to marry a gentleman -

Someone who says, "I love you."

And means it with his whole being.
