Three Years Old

Three Years Old

A Poem by David Trounce
"

Growing up, and the things you lose along the way.

"

The ocean's a forest
the fishes are trees.
Mums beenbags' a snow storm
Dads shoes are my skis

That saucepans' a drum kit,
that dog is a bear.
My fans' a tornado,
my mountains are stairs.

The Thunders' a monster
without any legs.
The crayons are dinner,
my boat is a bed.

If I grow up
I know I won't see
the things I see now
So I think I'll stay three.

' Mums beenbags' a snow storm ~ Dads shoes are my skis.. '

This is so lovely, so near to how childhood is and how - if we're really honest, how growing up should be. Oh boy, jumping in puddles or making angels wings in snow is just sooooo wonderful.!!! And, you've gone back, remembered such fantastic moments. That's what memories should be, never mind what comes after!

I know, I know, tis not true for (everyone )

We absorb more when our brains are young and roomy, we just have to think harder and forget that we're grown up now and have cluttered minds re. bills and commitments instead of flying kites and jumping in puddles!

This was so great ..it made me smile! I don't exactly remember that specific age but the one memory I have had to be younger and I would chew on my moms flowers and love it.funny what we remember. And when you watch children learn and grow it makes life so enjoyable. Thanks for writing such an enjoyable short and sweetpiece :)

Childhood memories and the importance of imagination. Simple. Lyrical. Poignant.

Four I remember. I went to work driving a milk cart. I started school. Three is as far away as five was when I was four.
Great poem. (That's two now. Yes I'm counting)

Thanks Donald. You had a job driving a milk cart at four?
Good way to sum up the feeling of being 3! I remember being 3 distinctly and I have shared memories with my older siblings that I couldn't know unless I was cognizant at that age, but it still is hard to sum up that time when you are much older. Good job!

That poem is just adorable. There is not one thing you forgot to describe in the poem and the rhyme, it just wraps it all up. Wonderful
