When A Hero Is Flesh And Blood

When A Hero Is Flesh And Blood

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

Something that came to me while hearing the song "Love Is Only Human" by Pam Tillis and Marty Roe

"

My natural instinct was to

Rush to your side

Riding in on my white horse

To save your life.

A knight in shining armor

Was all you saw

Caught in a dramatic experience

Caused us to fall.

Unfortunately the hands of time

Are not a hero’s friend

Exposing the obvious truth

We are human too.

The disappointment began as I

Dismounted from my horse

No longer did you look up at me

Like I was larger than life.

Then you lost all faith

The day you saw my armor pierced

Forcing you to realize

That I am flesh and blood.

Now that I stand against the world

From many misunderstandings

Suddenly I find myself all alone

As you slip back into the shadows.

When your illusion fell from grace

So did your feelings for me

For when I was your hero

I was everything

But as a man

I became nothing.

Beautifully written. You feel the heartache in it. When we find out that the way some people look at us is not as we are, but in their fantasy's they fit us into, it's hurtful. The whole time it's just them trying to fit us into the puzzle they have. Don't take it as rejection tho. It's just sad they can't really look to see people for who they truly are but more absorbed in pleasing themselves. A lot of times it's out of pain that they do it to begin with.
Very exposing and vulnerable piece.

Oh, Dale! I so understand this. We generally idealize a person when they are far from us and when they come near we sort of take them for granted because our image of them is shattered by reality. I hate reality and curse it atleast once daily ;) This is a great, introspective write! :-)

So much truth in this poem. A lovely portrait of dashed hopes and illusions - only told from the other side. There's such a sadness at the end. I like how you took the proverbial knight on a white horse and interwove it into such realism. And yet even as we read it and know that it is true, we still go on looking for our white knights and "knightess'".

First let me say, wow! This poem is full of emotion, the rawness of it is really awesome. You brought out so much that happens in relationships and the types of pitfalls that can happen. I think this sends a real message to women about what can happen when their preceptions of their men changes.

A couple nit picky corrections...

"Then all you lost all faith" All twice doesn't flow. I don't think you need the first one.

"When you illusion fell from grace" You or your? I think your would work better, maybe I'm wrong...just seems choppy.

Overall, very well written and great perspective. *smiles*

Very good! I like how you word this. It seems to me many people can relate to this writing. I do like this.
I noticed on the last stanza that the first line the word you is there instead of your. Not a big deal. Great poem as always!

it is a beautiful piece of writing... so much truth to it - as sometimes we see those knights in shining armor and are expecting them to be invinc. when in reality they are made the same as we are...
