I wish I had read this before I made some of the choices I made... Of course it took a wet road, 3 beers and an oak tree to wake me up. That commercial is very true: "Buzzed driving is drunk driving." I was lucky that the only thing that was killed was my buzz and my wallet. I didn't even get a DUI; the breathalyzer came back below the limit, but I know the alcohol caused the accident.
The way you put it into verse was fantastic. It imparts an awesome message and if it is remembered by one person who chooses to call a cab instead of chancing it, then this poem will serve its purpose nobly. Wonderful job (:
awesome message, and an important one. If we had stiffer penalties for 1st offeses, we wouldn't have as many 2nd and 3rd offenders! In KY you lose your license for 90 days and go to "awareness counseling" and that is pretty much it! My uncle was killed by a drunk driver (it was 8 AM!!! and he was still drunk from the night before!) and I STILL had the stupidity to try it! I got a DUI after someone rear-ended me and I hit someone else. Just like everyone else I always thought " i am not that drunk" or " I can handle it!" how stupid! (chalk it up to youth?) I am ashamed of it and would never ever do it again...I just think how lucky I am to still be here or how lucky I am that I didn't kill anyone !!
Rather interesting piece Dale. Don't drink and drive. I like how you related the 2 liquids-gasoline and beer. What a relationship. Sometimes it takes a poet to deliver the message.
Very accurate and honest. This is a wonderful public safety message...and it is close to my heart. One of my dearest friends was killed by a drunk driver and she was only 19...There is no need to drive if you drink...because the way I see it...if you have to drive to go home...you just don't pick up the drink!
Truth, truth and more truth. My son is a musician and recently organized a huge concert to help the families of drink/drive victims. It is a shocking problem, I don't know what these 'people' are thinking...nothing to think with? That would be a fair guess.
Awareness is such a powerful tool Dale...you go you good thing...
Cheers,
Helen:-)
GOOD WAY TO BRING FOURTH A MESSAGE TO PEOPLE VERY OUTSTANDING I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE CAUSE IT TELLS PEOPLE THAT DRINKING AND DRIVING WILL ON NOT HURT SOME ONE ELSE BUT ALSO HURT YOU..I LIKE THAT ITS STRIGHT TO THE POINT AND POINT MADE VERY CLEAR KOODOS MY FRIEND ON THIS ONE THIS IS GREAT,,,,,GOD BLESS
