Children Of The Night

Children Of The Night

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

In this midnight masquerade

Secrets are hidden

On the dark side of the moon

While the bold side

Looks down upon me with a smile,

Or is it a snicker?

Can he see the real me?

The one who walks amongst

The down and out using the shadows

As a blanket of security,

So I can understand

Why they find the blue skies

A curse born of sin.

Or does he see me as One

Who should remain in the dark

Cause my eyes were tainted

By the nocturnal side of human nature

Therefore being poisoned

By impurities that society heeds.

Could the moon be so blinded

By what the sun reflects on him?

I think not…

              Or why else

Would he gravitate here

Every night to turn negative light

Into a positive glow

So the children of the night

Have a reason to believe.

Maybe I am better off

Staying here,

With the man in the moon

For his wisdom

Far out weighs

Any superficial intelligence

The sun can cast light upon.

Wow! This was such a great write! It's so powerful. My favorite parts were,
"As a blanket of security,
So I can understand
Why they find the blue skies
A curse born of sin."

and

"I think not
Or why else
Would he gravitate here
Every night to turn negative light
Into a positive glow"

I love this poem, every line. It has vampire tones and social woes.. this person seems to feel .. loved these lines:
Cause my eyes were tainted

By the nocturnal side of human nature

Therefore being poisoned

By impurities that society heeds.

Great!

There is nothing more beautiful than a "dark" child/man/woman coming out into the light of day..
We are all perfect in our creation..
This is quite the write Cowboy!!

Love this! There's a sadness to it yet it makes, for me, the dark side seem so tempting and mysterious. The moon is just as life giving as the sun. Like the darkness to this piece. Like the whole thing.

This poem says so much so me.

The children you speak of hide in the dark in order to keep their flaws and their insecurities from the world, in order to escape from the awful wrath, burden, and pain of society. They fear to see themselves in the light, so they hold onto the darkness as if it is the only way to stay alive.

So much meaning here, so much pain, fear, and sorrow. Yet despite all of this, this poem remains beautiful. You deserve a round of applause! Amazing work, here.

'So the children of the night have a reason to Believe'.....makes me think of that song.....(you know the one)...

The whole poem is deep and thought provoking. I keep looking for all the underlying meanings, and its not easy to separate the layers without delving deep into my own soul, and to keep from writing a book about how reading this affected me, suffice to say----I think you did an awesome job, and really enjoyed reading .....(read it several times in fact).

This was great.. you brought that beaming moonlight to the children of the night who suffer in the darkness.. such a positive notion.. the moon is so great in it's divine beauty.. casts such beautiful light over us .. I could relate to alot but mostly the last stanza.. funny how the night in all it's dark silence brings such truth and reality to the end of our days.. no noise.. so fewer distractions:

Maybe I am better off
Staying here,
With the man in the moon
For his wisdom
Far out weighs
Any superficial intelligence
The sun can cast light upon

A fantastic dark fantasy writing.. =)
