I'm Not Afraid

I'm Not Afraid

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

I’m not afraid of my heart

Just scared of my heartbeat,

Trying to figure out what it means

When there is no one to listen.

I’m not afraid of living

But frightened of my life,

Knowing the longer it goes on

The better chance I get it wrong.

I’m not afraid of death

Simply uncertain of dying,

Wonder what the future holds

For a rebel spirit in the afterlife.

I’m not afraid of who I am

Just fearful of whom I want to be

Cause I am still apprehensive

Of who I use to be.

You are just becoming a better poet with each passing day, aren't you? This is beautiful and straight from the heart. I think alot of people have the same fears. Not where they are, but where their life is stearing them. There a fear of acceptance and exposing yourself. This was so well written. Flawless really.

This is profound, reflective and thought provoking. It flows so well yet every line I stop to ponder. You echo the thoughts and emotions all face someday when we pause to take stock of our lives. I am very impressed with this write.

I love the last stanza. It is powerful and strong. It says a lot about who you are. And death is scary for most because it is something we can't really understand. Great writing, friend.

Wow I can so relate to this piece. Isn't that always the greatest fear. The fear of the unknown the fear of what life has at the next corner. Excellent job on this one.

Fear is only present in two realms of life. The known, and the unknown. Most fear the unknown for sure. We all have to come to terms with what we are unaware of...our mortality. Or is our immorality? Or is it both? Our hearts are like the "Curb Feelers" on cars of the '70's. Our minds are the to us what the modern day computer is. It occasionally locks up with the dreaded blues screen. System down. lol We scramble in fear to get it back up and running. For some reason our hearts and mind do not seem to come with communication lines between the two. We have to install it as an option ourselves. I think God knew that some would benefit one way, while others would the other. Pondering the hereafter will take one down many, many roads of possibilities. Many are frightening to consider. The most frightening is trying to figure which is the correct conclusion...
