The Monster Without

The Monster Without

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

He is in search for the darkest cave

Where he can hide away

Like the pain echoing off his chest cavity.

Built to be without feeling,

But was given a defective heart

That drips with loneliness.

The visible scars are nothing

Compared to the ones humanity

Has tattooed on his soul.

His hope to cover those marks

From being stitched together

Are thwarted by all the plastic surgeons

That say they are not miracle workers

And can never make him a whole person within.

Longing for nothing more than to be normal

When standing in a crowd

Has been his lifelong dream,

That is why the monster will have to do without

Living in my nightmares,

For I have long since rejected society’s standards,

Making it my Frankenstein's monster.

This is depression or mental illness personified for me. Frankenstein is the abnormal feelings we get when they are triggered.

Very interesting use of the tale of Frankenstein. Love the way you made the character more of a trait within. Well penned.

Thank you so much, I appreciate your kind words and glad you liked it.
The modern Prometheus. I think it is worth remembering that Shelley meant it that way and hence: Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay,To mould me Man, did I solicit thee, From darkness to promote me?
So to bring a titan to earth composed of many and one could wonder about the intentions behind, why to use him? I'll leave you with this:

"If we are to survive, a new balance must be found. In normal times, evil would be fought by good. But in times like these, well, it should be fought by another kind of evil. "

Thankyou

Thankyou for the invite.....
Wonderful poem indeed. I was just pondering memories of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and also Dean Koontz's rather different Frankenstein. But as is your wont, you've come up with an entirely unique take on the legend.

Oh I love Dean Koontz five book series, thank you so much, glad you liked it.
This one captures the lonely, soft heart of Frankenstein perfectly. You wrote an amazing poem, my friend! Thank you.

you are welcome....:)
what happens Is many see themselves as freaks
mistakes to the world most of my life I had to see god doesn't
make mistakes nor does he use scrapes we are all beautifully made.

I was like a disease to most that understood me not
the Ugly duckling and my Disability was Contagious like
a sickness treated me like I was stupid and Ugly but I know what
true beauty is to me and the real Frankenstein if excepted won't
be a vicious monster as fear starts and many fear him
he is a HUGE guy with a big teddy bear heart and all he wanted
is a Frankenstein wife and to be loved and excepted not treated like a freak
that is how it is in all the movies I love old black in white
shows The Munster's I love that they have it on Netflix where I can watch them.

I have learned that there is many different types
of ADD and I can manage mine well some can't and
I don't see myself as a freak so I understand Frankenstein's
pain many looked at me like I was a freak the world can be cruel.

your heart want to cry thank you for sharing my friend.

P.S. Who's your favorite Character I like Frankenstein
because he was always a loving and kind one he just turned Violent
as no one saw his beauty scares many can see as ugly and that isn't right
sadly I understand that very well we all do.

This is going into my favorites.

Blessings. Benita

you're welcome. :)
I have to agree with my friends below, I do feel sympathetic towards the bad guys or monsters sometimes.
They're typically a product of how they've been treated or created. We should look deep and accept more willingly, and forgive more freely.

Acceptance of others, no matter what, leads to acceptance on ones self as well. Well written.

Very well said, thank you sir for sharing your wisdom.
Jacob said it all. I always cried for Frankenstein. And for King Kong, and Jaws and Orca for that matter. A very good read.

Boy you cry a lot don't you :) Just kidding…
Thank you so much.
i think society does make us all frankenstein monsters...but that poor creature was made by others, and his violent side was not of his own volition...he is a sympathetic character, misunderstood and feared...

like we all are sometimes...

excellent piece.
