Mirrored In Distorted Reality

Mirrored In Distorted Reality

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

You must first capture your reflection

Before you can turn around to make it right.

Be careful to not shatter your image

Or else you’ll find it is not so lucky

To see what others see in you.

Diligence is key when talking to yourself

Because that mirror just might be a two way.

The problem can be solved

By putting the vanity in the attic

And the light bulbs in the cellar.

Once again, very thought-provoking message. This reminds me of how, just last week I blocked someone on the Christian right (lifelong friend from high school) becuz she lambasted me for calling Trump an asswipe (that's the mildest thing I could've called him!) I don't mind that she called me out, but she blew me off when I pointed out that most of my postings are positive & she never responds to any of those, only to the negative things I say. I asked her to think about the message SHE puts out, when she does this. She blew me off again, so I blocked her. Your poem is such a vivid & harsh depiction of the way people go around judging how everyone else expresses themselves, but have no cognizance whatsoever about how they come across. This one slays me! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

this reads like a play on the phrase first remove the log from your own eye, before trying to remove it from another's", ego and self image doesn't always go hand in hand though, if we try to see ourselves instead through the eye of the world its not always pleasant either, there is always such an emphasis on being perfect in that realm to, better maybe to close our eyes before we take a hard look, them maybe we see what's inside.

:D most welcome R&R
it seems too often, when we look in the mirror all we do see is the ego, the vanity and hardly ever the reality.... this is the age of the "selfie"..... perhaps if that vanity were put in the attic the world just might be a tad bit better place to live in.... thanks Dale and that 2 way mirror of a poem....

Thank you for sharing such deep insight.
'putting the vanity in the attic" is quite the smart move...
often we will not look into the mirror and see what we really are...
we might, as Sylvia Plath expressed, "turn to those liars the candles or the moon"
and look at our reflection on a lake...thus seeing what we prefer to see.
