Subliminal Nightmare(The Fight Within)

Subliminal Nightmare(The Fight Within)

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Knock at the door

Wanting to be alone

A thumb in the keyhole

Doesn’t stop the peeping eye.

Turn out the lights

Brings on the voices

Begging you to come out

For a game of hide and seek.

Crawl under the bed

Hiding with the monster

To use as a bodyguard

Without parental consent.

Break for the hallway

Hoping to fool the danger

By laughing in its face

With an eye for an eye attitude.

Tragedy cripples

The moonlight

But doesn’t stop

The sun from rising.

There is such a haunted sense to your words. Those feelings that rise when we're children running from fear.. and can carry on as we're adults too.. as life creeps up on us.. Both a masterful piece visually and one that touches deep inside the mind.

This was a very interesting piece, I enjoyed it, reminds me of my childhood when I was terrified of ghosts and couldn't sleep alone. :)

Fears are never shaken, but mastered. It's all a matter of finding that control button keeping our fears at bay.

wowzzy - I think you just described some of my childhood nights and some of my adult nights - this was cool, kinda sad and triggers fearful memories. peace, balance and harmony

This is very haunting and eerie. It's almost as if the poem is saying we can't hide from ourselves, we can't hide from what really terrifies us, and that is us. Nicely done.

Really interesting piece... there were a few phrases that weren't really making complete sense, but overall, I thought this was a very good piece.. much different from other things you've written. Nice job. c:

Surely it doesn't, that's for sure.
'Crawl under the bed, Hiding with the monster,
to use as a bodyguard" Bravery...not me! hahaha

Ooh it left me with goosebumps.
This is definitely a poem that I have to read over and over.
It's like a scary movie that I can't stop watching because I like how it scares me.
If that makes sense.
Excellent poem!

The night holds us both in its beauty and, incredible loneliness .. it's the time when ghosts wander our minds and sounds are as loud as cannons. You've caught the fears and condensed them into a wonderful poem, Dale. And yet, yes, dawn brings day and clears the mind. But isn't i strange how sleep can do two things, relax when tired or scare like crazy .. and daylight brings hope but also, life's stresses.

There's something about these lines: 'Break for the hallway Hoping to fool the danger By laughing in its face With an eye for an eye attitude. '
