I Dare You

I Dare You

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

I dare you to come swimming

In the deep end of the pool

With me as the only lifeguard.

I dare you to look deep in my eyes

Seeing things no one else sees,

From all my hopes and dreams

To my darkest secrets.

I dare you to put your head on my shoulders

And tell me all your troubles and fears

Letting me help you even though

You’re strong enough to.

I dare you to hold my hand

Walking so close together

That no one else in the world

Can come between us.

I dare you to allow your heart

To get entangled in mine

Like our bodies do

Most every night.

I know I’m asking a lot of you dear

But if you’re ready and willing

To accept these challenges

Laid out before you

Then there’s one more thing

That I need to know your love is true

Simply stated… I dare you to dare me too.

Trust is often the hardest thing to give, and once again I think that "The Phoenix" has written a gem. My poems have been so bitter lately, but yours have this sweetness to them. Its nice, and I like the line, "I dare you to allow your heart to become entangled with mine." We all want to be entangled at the end of it all, don't we?

Nice ending! Summed it up in a punch! The beginning of a relationship is a dare. And we are daring enough to jump in head first and hope the other rescues us.

Rock and roll cowboy,
Your "I Dare You" reminds me of the hope we all have that we can rest in goodwill and devotion of our relationships. I think of what it means to be and have the great priviledge of a loved one looking into our soul and they into ours. Do they know they are safe to do so.........? The line," I dare you to hold my hand, walking so close together that no one else can come between us." That is a vulnerability and a faith that just trusts; just because you believe you can. Love it ..Thanks for this early and wonderful write! Blessings, kathy

Why thank you so much, that is one of the first poems I ever wrote.
I like how the speaker puts the onus directly onto the lap of the person he is speaking to. A Challenge, so to speak. These words feel sincere, and thus that is where it gets its power from. Well said, Dale

Thank you very much sir... just a hopeless romantic speaking loud and proud.
i really like this poem...the last line, "i dare you to dare me too" and i dare you to love me...dare you to trust me enough to do that.

only time tells how true love is...but over time we know.

Thank you so much... re-featuring my old romantic pieces for the upcoming holiday.
This is the hottest poem I read in recent time!

So true...we shy away from real intimacy. Maybe it's the hitch of baring ourselves or the fear of gettin hurt...don't know... And one can't do it alone. Only two can play the game.

A sexy & beautiful read! Thanks for writing it.
