Belief

Belief

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

I came up with the premise for this poem while I was in Wal Mart. God only knows why. Not the best thing I ever spit out but I've been short of ideas lately

"
I've heard the brimstone of the frauds
I've heard them speak of prophets and Gods
I've heard the promise from the pulpit
I've heard the rantings of the despot
I've heard the Minarets that sing
I've seen the carnage blind faith can bring
I've seen them wave their book on high
I've heard them shout believe or die
I've heard them sing call to prayer
I've heard the bullets cut through the air
I've heard them promise heaven eternal
I've seen their bodies ripped by shrapnel
I've heard the Chaplin speak of Jesus
I've heard him say that God is with us
I've heard him speak of a prince of peace
I've heard him try to assuage our grief
I've seen hate destroy the holy land
I've seen revenge get out of hand
I yearn for peace to be in my heart
I wouldn't know where to start
With knowing everything I've seen
I don't believe in anything

i see that your very smart and observant my friend... you've seen the harsh realities many sides of misused and misunderstanding of religion... faith had come along way from the pages of history and our ancestry... and its still the concept until now is still under debate... our nature in believing is still evident in our thoughts and hearts.... the truth is just within us to find... its a process how will you enlighten yourselves in seeking truth...
great write my friend.

Walmart must be a real religious place for you then, I assume. *snickers*
Time and time again, I've found religion to be an unreliable concept; of which its believers (with a fair exception for the few that actually know what they speak of; most of whom are Buddhist, ironically) are just as ignorant and hypocritical. It brings to mind this teacher of mine; whom I often describe as an ignorant ball of stupidity. She rambles on about Christianity, spewing malice at religions that have similar beliefs as her. I've often tried correcting her, only to receive a roll of her eyes and ignorance.

I like the repetition, gives the reader the impression of monotony that these power-mongers ring in your ears day after day. The preacher, dictator, politician, CEO, they all have the same M.O., and have since the beginning. I like the simple rhyme scheme at the end, brings out the witticism here.

i think "spit out" poems are the best...they flow free and easy and aren't stiffened by too much tinkering. They don't sound forced.

it is hard to believe in anything anymore...and i am an idealist from the 60's...so disillusioned now.

well spoken poem...sort of like ferlinghetti and ginsberg--

and they always moved me...this poem does too.

It really makes you think you know, I know a-lot of closed-minded people who should "think" a bit :D. This is what I'll think of every-time I hear another ignoramus :). I speak from personal life sorry if your confused xD. All in all perfect and i'm shelving this one ;).

From what I can sense, it's full of question and disappointments in life...
The persona here is trying to find answers because he sees the world around him as an endless cycle- the same events are happening and only the time, place, and the people involved changes but the story is till the same..
There are a lot of doubts here but there is still the sense of hope... A hope to find someone who can convince the persona that life is not always like that...
Nice write...
