Belief

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

I came up with the premise for this poem while I was in Wal Mart. God only knows why. Not the best thing I ever spit out but I've been short of ideas lately

"
I've heard the brimstone of the frauds
I've heard them speak of prophets and Gods
I've heard the promise from the pulpit
I've heard the rantings of the despot
I've heard the Minarets that sing
I've seen the carnage blind faith can bring
I've seen them wave their book on high
I've heard them shout believe or die
I've heard them sing call to prayer
I've heard the bullets cut through the air
I've heard them promise heaven eternal
I've seen their bodies ripped by shrapnel
I've heard the Chaplin speak of Jesus
I've heard him say that God is with us
I've heard him speak of a prince of peace
I've heard him try to assuage our grief
I've seen hate destroy the holy land
I've seen revenge get out of hand
I yearn for peace to be in my heart
I wouldn't know where to start
With knowing everything I've seen
I don't believe in anything

I was starting to think this was another racist, anti-Muslim poem about terrorists that people always mistake as representatives of an entire faith. But now that Ive scanned it twice, I kind of get your point. People invite me to a peaceful trance, telling me of regulations and conditions and ways of life, if followed, will bring forth harmony and order in our lands, but I see and hear many many people preach, more than act, I hear them talk of honesty and forgiveness, while many find it easier to lie and hold grudges. But unlike you at the end of the poem, I do believe in God...Im just not sure he believes in us. But I didnt like the picture you posted, and im sure when your writing becomes more popular, and i bet it will, the image will upset some Muslim writers who might have nothing to do with terrorism and might even be against it. I would change it. Over all, you have a sleek way with words. There is truth and disappointment in it. Thank you for posting.

lol its all good, i get caled that all the time
This piece reminded me of the "Holy" crusades. Sending forth an army to beat the unbelievers to submission.
I believe there will only be real peace when people get it in their hearts to love one another. Not just because a book or dogma tells them to.

You presented this with awesome power. I love each and every line. Bravo!

I had to Google Wal Mart...I know I've heard of it but I just needed to be reminded. Just thought I'd share some useless information with you :)
People get so obsessed with following the rules...their excuse for hate. "In the bible it says..."
What about loving one another, isn't that the most important rule? Why is that the last one people think of, if they think of it at all?
People's willingness to hate and hesitation to love always makes me sad, also this is a brilliant write and I loved it.

Succinct report of the brutal psychological horrors of war, from your experience.
'..Brimstone of frauds..' '..minarets sing..' 'bullets cut thru air...' '..hate..' '.. 'revenge...'

"I yearn for peace to be in my heart "....

You do believe in something ---

Hope.
