Big Dog

Big Dog

A Poem by Baby Ricochet
"

I've been struggling with a poem about bodybuilding for some time so hopefully I finally nailed it. I took the photo a couple of weeks ago. God my hands look tiny.

"

I have a strange obsession
to flat bench 405
I don't know why I want to
So please don't ask me why

Bodybuilders are weirdos
an obsessive lot
we're looking for attention
to show off what we got

Bigger is always better
Ginormous monster thighs
walk around in wife beater tees
and scare off other guys

Some chicks they go crazy for it
others think you're strange
Forget about the emo chicks
They think you're deranged

Little kids are fascinated
they stand still and stare
looking at a comic hero
who wrestles grizzly bears

Some people will do double takes
Sometimes they ask questions
Yo big dog how much you bench
typically gets mentioned

It's some kind of fucked up hobby
The obsession of my life
I'm praying God has a squat rack
in heaven's afterlife

Bodybuilding has purity
with moments of pure zen
Focus on the present moment
or you won't lift it then

Being ginormous is lots of fun
Say anything you want
No one dares to challenge you
They can't get past your front

That's my poem on bodybuilding
I hope to get applause
So now if you'll excuse me please
I'm gonna  blast my quads

Author's Note

Baby Ricochet
A buddy from my corps days recently came for a visit. He hadn't seen me since 2010 and was taken aback by my appearance. "Holy Christ Mark what do you want to do, Crush the planet Saturn?" was his take on it. He didn't get it and that's okay. A lot of people don't. I guess that's why I struggled for so long to write a poem about it. It's a personal choice that seems strange to some but for those of us that are into it, it's fucking awesome. Thank you for reading my poetry. I appreciate it more than you know

As long as you are healthy, enjoy it and careful to keep from getting hurt then more power to ya. This is a good poem and who cares what others think.

BTW most bodybuilders hands and heads look small compared to their torso and arm size (just my opinon).

I remember when you took this picture (you're a guy so you have no sense of time, it was more than a couple of weeks ago *laugh*) (unless that was a different picture) (I'm a girl, I have no sense of...well...anything xD) Meanwhile, I remember telling you how small your phone looked! I dated a guy who had HUGE guns like yours, but he neglected his legs so he was like this great big guy with huge muscles up top then when he wore shorts it was like...how the hell do you support all that weight on those sticks xD Anyway. You're right...it's a subculture of the fitness culture which even cardio freaks don't understand...I life little pretty purple weights while I do my treadmill (no treadmill here at my dad's house, I have to jog *gasp* OUTSIDE!) But you know what? It works for you, and it's something you like to do so...meh...we all have something that makes us quote-unquote weird...yours could be weirder...weight lifting is perfectly acceptable in my book ;-) The poem explains it all, Baby. xoxo

I never forget seeing a body-builder in my street as a kid. Me and my mates were so buzzed and he only asked us the way to someone's house but we felt like we'd met the Hulk.
The Zen aspect I get BR. Its truly mind over matter. Good on yer!
Oh good biog write btw mate.

Bodybuilding works for me, that's for sure. Thank you carolannn
I'd have to say, being frightened of bodybuilders is something I could relate to. Some of them are plain cruel and hostile! Then again, most people are. This is one of this poems that introduce me to something I don't know much about, and that's what makes it so intriguing. Well expressed, Baby R.

Thank you Tai.
well I do think you made yourself clear in many areas...my favorite part is the section " Bodybuilding has purity with moments of pure zen, ect...it would be interesting ..perhaps to expand that idea into another poem ? Because it is a kind of meditation.. that place where you push beyond and there is no thought but to break though that "wall"...nothing exists but breathing and doing...love those moments... Well Done !
