Nightmares

Nightmares

A Poem by Denise
"

weird residual memory of a past nightmare that still leaves me restless when I try to conjure up the memory.

"
Hiding in the deep dark shadows are thoughts yet unformed.
Hiding there in the corner a lonely mist of a child left forlorn.

At the top of the stairs and around the bend darkness oozes and fear escapes.
Nightmares begin, chasing away comfort, leaving indescribable hate.

The first floor is empty nothing left to despair.
The second floor is frightening shapeless bodies and empty eyes that stare.

Chilly tingles run up and down the spine at the very last step.
Slowly shuffle down the hall like a small creature I crept.

Praying to be left unseen by empty eyes that stare.
Hoping to avoid the feelings of unease and shaky despair.

Creak at each step the floorboards they speak.
The ghostly shadow shivers and peaks.

Quickly I dash, reaching for the next door.
Running noiselessly up, up to the third floor.

Relief inside settles and sinks.
As the room brightens from inky grays to silvery pinks.

For now I feel safe but the game is not yet done.
Because after tonight a new night has begun.

I really like this!. I know that's not an eloquent statemnt, but what can I say. You captured the fear of a child to a T. You brought moments of my childhood back. Amazing.

You breathe out the darkest imagery that can haunt the mind. How dreams pulse to life, as vivid as any waking moment. Powerful write!

Very cool, this reminds me of going to my Grandmothers old house when I was a small child....that was a scary old place at night. I remember the fear that I had when it was bedtime...those damn creaky floors, nice job!
