Helpless Glimpse

Helpless Glimpse

A Poem by Kasie
"

Sometimes we really can see into the future. It isn't magic, but a knowing. A knowing of someone and their current; and that, no matter your words or actions, you won't change their course.

"

I would scream out to him,

but he never hears.

He's off waging wars

with himself and his fears.

He is consumed.

I'd go to the place

where his battlefield lays;

I'd hold him close

and stare deep in his eyes.

He'd still be doomed.

In a downtrodden heap,

I would fall to my knees;

I'd drown him in sorrows,

bury him in pleas.

He would not yield.

In a last desperate act,

I would wrench at his hips,

I would seek to dissuade

with a kiss on his lips.

He'd come unsealed.

I'd leap at the chance

to push for the win;

I'd whisper the reasons

in his hair, against his skin.

He'd waver.

Unchanged for a moment,

He'd hold the embrace;

He'd press to my body,

and cosset my face.

He'd savor.

But fear leads to a passion

that rivals all other;

He would push my away

and linger no further.

He'd return to the mud.

I'd be left in the space

between present and past;

Wishing for answers

and finding at last:

Nothing makes sense,

but the blood.

It is possible to save a person from many things, but not from himself. If one is more attached to his inner demons than to efforts to help, all the good will in the world will have no effect. The question is, how long will the helpers feel the efforts are worth it?
