Let The Darkness In

Let The Darkness In

A Poem by Diana Owen Busy with Life BBS!

Let the darkness take over your heart.

Let it in ~

Let the darkness seep in to your skin.

Let it consume you~

Let the darkness devour your soul.

Let it take you~

Let the demon control the mind.

Let him have you~

Give in to sin.

Feel it~

Give in to hatred.

Consume it~

Give in to aggression.

Fight it~

Give in to complete solitude.

Accept it~

Follow the darkened path ,

to a life of loneliness and

desolation.

Give in to all your desires,

Let its evil embrace you.

For once you have traveled

 Down it’s road,

You may never find your way back.

poetry with a moral twist - very creative. I kept waiting for the positives of giving into the darkness - as that seemed to be where the path was leading - then you throw the twist in at the end - bringing a warning to the words - transforming the work altogether. very nice job.

great piece... fantastic writing

i love this
"Give in to sin.
Feel it~
Give in to hatred.
Consume it~
Give in to aggression.
Fight it~
Give in to complete solitude.
Accept it~"

i love those fight it accept it lines -- and the last line of the piece is just so in your face - the truth right there for you to see - if you follow that path - this is what will happen.

This was very good like always! I like how it persuades the reader to go against the norm, to conform to the darkness rather than fighting it.
good job!

At first glance this poem seems rather simplistic and one-dimensional. But on deeper inspection you can actually see a more multi-dimensionality to it. Does the subject of the poem really want to be the evil character that the voice wants it to be? You don't overtly state whether or not it fights back, but you imply it, and allude to it - which, successfully done, is the quality of a true poet. The reader first has to ask him/herself "why would the voice have to be so pushy with it's insistence on walking such a dark path if the subject was so willing to take it? Why would the subject have to "accept it"? "Accepting" often implies "not wanting something but giving in eventually by coalescing. Great job.

While I might not agree, it does evoke a certain emotion. There are days when we all want to say 'SCREW IT!'. It would be so much easier than to rage against the tide that is our world. I like it very much. Very dark, and defeatist. It also seems like a warning with regard to what 'giving in' might bring us.

Thanks for posting it.

such a great write and very descriptive. it has great imagery and is very dark and morbid. i believe we've all had the urge to travel along that path, but something saves us from losing ourselves to our inner demons. well done with this one!! :)
