A Poem by diaphanous

Hello old friend
we haven't spoken for some time
after you shut me out
and pretended I wasn't on your mind.
Crawling back on all fours
pleading a change of heart
hoping that bridge you burned
hasn't completely fallen apart.
What should I have said,
to appease your distressed soul.
Did you want forgiveness
did you want warmth after being cold?
I was attached to the memory
but I was fine without you.
You've burnt out this past year
faded into a worn out blue.
So pale and sad,
I could easily forget you.
I'll still remember out of respect
for the fresh-faced time of the past
but I'll never feel a hint of regret
for cutting you off at last.

When we know what isn't good for us no amount of begging should open the door to second chances. I really liked the rhyme and the sentiments laid bare. The poem left no misunderstandings; it's good to stand your ground firmly and quietly. Thank you for the lovely read.
