Red Barchetta

On of my favorite Rush tunes for driving. Seems so prophetic. A little twist on the lyrics and lyricist. Watch out for the alloy air cars **see lyrics** Crank it up!

We never knew 

what was ahead

my 

uncle Neil said

back in 2015

they put black boxes

in 

the cars

to see where we went

and how far

then 

the ones

working for the 

security of our

home

land

took the guns

and 

engines

from

our hands

out in these parts

they only 

came

around once

to confiscate

but 

by then

it was too late

and now

you listened

to

my yarn

take a walk

to 

the barn

because

something's

there for me

that they didn't 

get to

beneath a pile

of hay

between where

his horses

behind

the rusty plow...

I stripped away

the old debris

said

"they didn't take it

how?"

Uncle Neil

"it may have been wrong

but I lied

when they went 

that direction

pretended 

to have died

after helping me

inside

they left

I prevented the theft

climb in

and

fire up 

the willing engine

it will roar

in the glove box

you will find

something 

from

a better vanished time

a 1923 Beretta

now

go screaming

through the valley

in the Red Barchetta!"

i own every album Rush ever made...these guys are the most talented musicians(singly and collectively) i have ever witnessed on stage and i have seen hundreds of top billing groups (used to get backstage passes to all the best groups) over the last four decades. i love this posting......

I have all the albums on CD. Beyond the Lighted Stage is really cool too. I saw them do the entire Moving Pictures a couple years back. That rocked. I got to hear "The Camera Eye" live, so now my life is complete. I have read all Neil's books...enjoyed them a lot too.

Nifty little poem Pat. I sense a connection to 2112, 1984, and the song. The twist with the Beretta was a nice one. This also has a sense of espionage about it too. Great poem.

Thanks Tim. This was fun. I had to pick a name for my uncle, so why not Neil...LOL! And what else rhymes with Beretta...haha. I do love this tune. Seemed so futuristic then. Now, not so much:)
