Love, After 13 years of Marriage

Love, After 13 years of Marriage

A Poem by Audrey Howitt
"

A poem about the willingness of the heart to open

"

Softly, your footsteps tread upon the welcome mat of my heart,

Tenderly scuffing off the soil of the day.

Particles of the outside world swept so gently to the edge.

Enter with haste.

For the heart here is ever-ready to receive and to hold you fast

to the sweet murmurings of my sighs.

This is how love should be after thirteen years of marriage, after thirty years too. It's the hardest job ever, means working in harmony, growing up together, sharing whatever life slings at the pair of you.
You express your heart beautifully and gently .. '.. ever ready to receive and to hold you fast .. '

Wow!--lucky guy.
What husband does not hope this is how his wife truly feels about him? How many of them--this very day--will bitterly discover that she is not nearly so ardent for him as for someone else?
I appreciate the art of, and respect the sentiment expressed in, this very fine poem.

Only a woman could love in this gentle and all-embracing way...

Your "sweet murmurings of sighs" make me sigh..:-)
The poem is sensual, earthy ( scuffing off the soil of the day) warm, and real..
A good poem for me to read before I log out for the evening..:-)

Beautiful. I really enjoyed reading this poem. I agree, it has a gentleness to it--softly, tenderly, gentle, murmorings--all of these words create that soft imagery
